I read this and I cannot describe how annoyed it makes me. The bolded part is what makes me want to do a murder/suicide combo.
“the actions of women are not the cause of their objectification. Women have a lot of good reasons to perform beauty work and to dress sexy, especially in the…
Why do people think sexy cosplay is a problem? Sexy people (not just women) wearing sexy things always gather a lot of sexual attention. Having been in several geeky communities and clubs, I don’t ever remember anybody, guy or girl, being ostracised for not being sexy enough. In fact, several times girls have held leadership positions and been driving forces in the expansion of clubs I’ve been in (anime and tabletop RPG). This article makes it sound like somehow men are keeping women down and women wanting to wear a sexy costume let us do it. It’s simply not the case. It’s logically foolish to expect a perfect to the last detail costume to gather as much attention as somebody wearing a sexy costume. Why? Everybody likes sexy and only people that are huge fans of the show/comic/whatever are going to even notice if you got all the details down. I bet a lot more people get their pictures taken with shirtless kaminas with 6 packs than with a perfect Spike from Cowboy Bebop. Yes, there is definite room for more strong female characters in video games, but there are also far more male designers than female. Simply from a difficulty standpoint, it’s easier for men to make real men characters and women to make real women characters. Characters that will truly relate to real people. Soon the number of women designers will catch up the the number of women gamers and I honestly believe that a lot of the problems from the publisher’s side will self-medicate. Again, as for the community as a whole, I don’t think it’s any more “objectifying” than any other community. In my experience, it’s usually more accepting than any other. If you’re expecting ANY man to not look at a sexy woman wearing sexy things and think that’s awesome, you’re stupid. That’s not objectifying women, that’s being human. It doesn’t take away from the rest of the community. There’s not a secret bar we keep in our heads that gets moved whenever we see something attractive where if you don’t reach it you no longer count. It’s just a moment that makes us smile.

-Sir, we’ve found this and we needed you to name it.
-Pineapple.
-But we figured we might as well just call it “Ananas” since the majority of the world refers to it as-
-Pineapple.
-But sir-
-Pine. Apple.
